Press Release

The goal of the magazine is to wider the audience and to bring them to the next level, to give the all the needed information and much more, to meet their expectations and to level up their 'vals'. Even though the magazine is aiming to achieve the audience which loves electronic dance music, there will be some articles applying to another audience as well. With exclusive interviews and features from both international and local icons crossing the spectrum of music, newest gigs and festivals, interviews, newest album releases, photo shots, fashion and much more this publication would bring readers closer to their 'role models' or the ones they adore.

The magazine is oriented to the audience between ages 19 and 22, but this does not mean that other people will not find it interested. Readers will experience some in-depth interviews with the most well known world's Dj's who never gives interviews, such as Deadmau5 or Dimitri Vegas&Like Mike. There will be some tips how to get the software that the best of the best are using and how to become that successful. Offering readers the straight shot from listening to music and making it at home, just for themselves - to actually becoming so successful and changing their lifestyle to the ones they always wanted to be!

One of the USP(unique selling points) is that it will include interview with a DJ which have not given one in a few years. Also the actual look of the magazine will be much different. Use of colour will make the reader confused (is it a fashion or music magazine??). The front cover will connote about the genre of the magazine from far away.

The magazine will be distributed by 'Development Hell Ltd' company which already distributes 'MixMag' magazine which was found 31 years ago by Nick Decosemo.
The company is based in London.

The magazine will be monthly sold, the price from £3 to £4 ( as my research shown, my t.a. thinks this is a fair price for a music magazine and they are most likely to pay this ).
However the first release (first 1,000 copies) will be given free at places like music stores, couple of fashion stores where my T.A are most likely to be shopping like Pull&Bear, Hollister, Zara. Also small cafes and hairdresser salons.

The tone of the magazine will be more informal, to actually attract my T.A. This will be a subliminal thing as the people that I am aiming the magazine to, are so into that kind of language (friends, media) that they will not notice that, but it will make them feel as if the magazine is special for them. The text will be most likely written with serifs, as my T.A expects to see them on the music magazine (masthead, cover lines).

My EDM magazine also will host various events through the yea, will offer competitions and free gifts (such as CD's etc.) which will help to make sure that my T.A is wide enough to make profit as it if a new magazine, unknown brand and people still do not trust this magazine.

Name selection....

I have started brainstorming ideas for my music magazine name quite early.

That's a few ideas that I created myself, but also a couple of names that I got from my music magazine target audience questionnaire.

The questionnaire helped me to understand what my T.A expectations are for a magazine, for a name, typography, colours, layout and contents.

My goal is to find a very 'catchy' name which would attract my audience more than anything else.
One of my favorite names is 'PingPong!' because it is actually the name of the EDM song, which means it connotes about my target audience itself and it would be that 'catchy' name for my audience. 'Outsiders' do not really know what that means, sounds like a game name, but it is a song. Plus it is a word game or alliteration (when two or more words in a row starts with the same letter, making it sound more familiar or more attractive)

I was also thinking about either 'EDMzone' or 'Xzone' because these names suggests about something 'dangerous' and for my T.A this suggests about huge parties, festivals, massive crowds.

Moreover my research showed that there exists such thing like 'name letter effect' when people prefer letters that are in their names. This attracts their attention, they are also attracted by the numbers which are in their date of birth.

After I find out about name letter effect I did a research into which letters are mostly common to be into names.
For females it was A, M, S (also common but less C, E, J, L, R)
For males A, J, M, S (also D, E, L, R)

From these letters it might not be possible to build an actual word but it is possible to build acronym which would mean something special for my T.A.(my t.a mostly females).
For example AJM'S which stands for 'And Just Music Stays'

Because females require more 'cheesy' name.

Also when it comes to serif or non serif fonts, my research have shown that 85% of t.a. have chosen the fonts which had serifs. This suggests that my masthead has to be with serifs.

However I am still working on the style of my masthead and still brainstorming new names.

T.A questionnaire results

I have done a lot of grammar mistakes while talking, but this is my first video for AS Media.
I will improve with every single one.

How does the magazine represent particular social groups?

What aspects of your work are you pleased with and why/ What aspects of your work could be improved on and why?

I forgot to mention in the slide show, I am unhappy about my contents page in some ways.

The first thing I don't like is the red puff which supposed to go till the end of the actual page, covering it till the end. Also the first picture underneath red puff should be cropped and fit to the page, but I did not know how to do that and had limited time (like couple of hours). I am disappointed by the way it looks, could look much better if I would have had more time.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Contents page!

I did the whole contents page based on one of the 'Cosmopolitan' magazine contents' page. I used a picture of my model in the middle as well, used some pictures from my holidays this summer and my own blog. All the images on the contents page are originally taken.

The use of colours connotes about my target audience. Moreover every single story on contents page is related with my research and my own college 'understanding' as I am a part of the target audience myself, always trying to keep my product up to the target market that I'm making product for.

To make it more catchy I used some abbreviations. I did not put the colour on the contents page itself, as I thought it might look too colorful and not connoting about young people wanting to look more mature. Also a young person like me, do not usually like bright colours. My college magazine research also shows that my target audience expectations is to mostly see black, red and white colours.

It's the very simple page of contents for my magazine, but I quite like it. The use of font also makes the target audience pay more attention to it, easier to read but still looks 'cool' for your people.

Contents folio flat plan

College Magazine Front Cover!*

That is my CCN Magazine front cover.

I have chosen a pretty dark image, to represent how college people want to be more mature and want everyone to treat them like adults.
With PS programme I changed my models hair colour to a darker one, her lips colour, also deleted thing like spots, etc.

I have chosen a light brown colour for my masthead because it goes with the model's scarf. Usually all the well known magazines tries to make sure the masthead looks good with the model or what she is wearing.

I like the background of my picture, representing nature and young adults.

My cover lines such as :
- Great money saving tips (Students mostly do not have enough money for everything they want to do, so it's always good to put article about saving their money)
- Healthy eating (Mostly teenage girls are very interested into health eating stuff, being fit and nice)
-Cheap holidays 4U (using abbreviation represents young college people)
-Less money - more fashionable. HOW? (because my magazine is more targeted to females, magazine has a cover line which represents that there is a story about someone just like them - not having enough money but maybe even having more fashionable clothes not having THAT much money to spend)

The puff says : Win free tickets to Tomorrowland 2015.

It is a electronic dance music festival, very well known, especially when my target audience is really interested into this kind of music, it would catch their eye.
